Cayo Perico Heist DLC Megathread
It's here boys and girls! The Cayo Perico DLC has been released!
"Unlike previous Heists, there is no specific style when it comes to approaching Cayo Perico.
Once you’ve gathered the necessary gear, you can choose to complete as much (or as little) set-up and planning as you want – though be warned that these decisions will, in turn, affect the way the action unfolds. If you want to call in an airstrike or use a cutting torch to burn through steel beams, for example, you would be well advised to put the time in beforehand. Once all the groundwork is laid down, you can nail down your final details before approaching Cayo Perico. These choices include how you infiltrate and escape the island, your weapons loadouts, air support, and even the operation’s time of day. As a result, no two approaches are alike on subsequent playthroughs. And repeat visits will allow you to heist valuable artifacts and other valuables as they become available. There is also a load of extra opportunities you can use to play to your advantage, such as breaking into storage lockups to raid hidden stashes of cash and contraband to bolster your bottom-line and fatten up your take. These chances and the tools necessary to complete them will rarely be found in the same place twice – some are only accessible when playing with multiple players, so joining up with friends is very much encouraged." This Megathread will serve as the place to discuss all things related to the DLC. We will be updating this as more information is released, so keep checking back. The Heist works very similarly to the Casino Heist. You have to hack cameras and scope out locations. Important Links: (Added once they become available)

When will the DLC drop? Soon. Rockstar usually pushes updates around 3:30AM EST or 9:30AM UTC. Check this helpful map showing all the timezones. Does the DLC cost money, how can I get the DLC? The DLC will be made automatically available through whatever launchestore you have the game on. Those using the Rockstar Launcher can expect to see their games updated first, so be ready for that. What can we expect? Judging by Rockstar's announcements and timelines, this DLC won't be massive. They've confirmed new business battles and yacht missions, probably comparable to the previous client jobs we've gotten with the Terrorbyte. Additionally they've teased some cars, of which we've gotten images of a new supercar, a musclecar and an F-1 car. Some new race modes have been mentioned as well. It's safe to assume that the content will be dripfed in stages, especially the more interesting items might be left for later. Have the Acura NSX and new Toyota Supra been added? Some images of the Toyota Supra and Acura NSX being converted at Benny's have been floating around - these are fake and have been put into circulation by a clickbaity asshole who shall not be named. Are weekly updates on Tuesdays starting now? Probably not. Rockstar always goes a little off their usual schedule with DLC drops and this is probably the same thing. It's hard to say if the sales will already change this Thursday, but I'd recommend y'all reek the benefits of the sales before you regret it. What's going to be on sale next? / When will the next sale be up? / What's going to be in the next DLC? If any Rockstar employees are on this sub, we'll let you know.
We're also hosting a Summer Special DLC Discussion Megathread which will be unlocked once the DLC has dropped to keep discussions related to the release of the DLC and first wave of content in one place. Have fun playing everyone!
I haven't played GTA V/Online since 2014, so things have changed a bit. It's all quite overwhelming for newcomers or returning players, especially if you get the Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack like I did. I snagged my Motorcycle Club, my Bunker, and free vehicles, and proceeded to follow guides for making money with those businesses. I sank too much into them, to the tune of getting down to $500,000 with no profit coming in because I was getting skunked as a solo player, even in a solo public session. The most difficult part of it all is dealing with the sharpshooter NPC's. These guys are ridiculous! So, we're aiming for non-combat jobs. That said, here's what I recommend folks do: - Snag the Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack for the $1,000,000. - Link your Amazon/Twitch Prime account with your Rockstar Social Club account to snag another $200,000 (and another $200,000 after 4 weeks consecutive play, supposedly). - Grab a bulletproof helmet ($20,000) from a clothing store, and ensure it's always equipped. (You may skip this, as it's really not necessary, but will help if you get pinned somewhere.) - Purchase a Mini SMG ($8,900). - Purchase a Pegassi Bati 801 motorcycle ($15,000). - Play Mission Repo - Simeonics until Rank 16 (Pause Menu > Online > Jobs > Rockstar Created > Missions > Repo - Simeonics). Profit $16,170. - Once Rank 16, play the Chasers II mission (Pause Menu > Online > Jobs > Rockstar Created > Missions > Chasers II). Queue into it, select Hard, and on the next screen, select Closed so no one else joins so you don't have to wait for them. Start a timer once you load in, go grab the car, ignoring people shooting at you (they'll stop once you get close enough to the destination), and turn in the vehicle once you pass 4:00. Profit $9,480. - Repeat - Once you get to $1,500,000, see this post or watch this video to start making $240,000/hr until you reach $2,200,000.
Notes for fellow noobs
Snacks are how you regain health. Your free CEO office has an executive assistant that provides snacks for free. These can be consumed on-the-fly via the Interaction Menu at Inventory > Snacks. Ammo can be purchased for your currently-held weapons via the Interaction menu at Inventory > Ammo. Visit the casino once per day (real time). No matter what, it's worth the drive, even if just for a few thousand RP. At this point in the GTA Online lifespan, your goal should be to obtain a submarine ($2,200,000) in order to do the Perico Heist. So, after grabbing your free cash, and spending some dough on the aforementioned items, you should be sitting at $1,156,100 before even starting any jobs. You're practically halfway to the submarine already... The reason we wait for 4:00 is due to the way payout is calculated. Further reading here.
Math
I tried a bunch of things, but what boiled down to being most profitable-to-ease of completion, in order of best to okay, were: 1. Chasers II 2. Repo - Simeonics 3. San Andreas Seoul 4. Warehouse 1x Crate Pickup & Delivery ``` | Job | Avg Time to Complete | Net Profit | Avg Profit per Minute | Profit per Hour | | ------------------ | -------------------- | ---------- | --------------------- | --------------- | | Repo - Simeonics | 10:00 | $16,170.00 | $1,617.00 | $97,020.00 | | Chasers II | 6:45 | $9,480.00 | $1,404.44 | $84,266.67 | | San Andreas Seoul | 9:00 | $11,380.00 | $1,264.44 | $75,866.67 | | Warehouse 1x Crate | 8:00 | $9,000.00 | $1,125.00 | $67,500.00 | Sample Size for each: 10 ```
Conclusions
Taking into account the costs for each warehouse, we'd have to do roughly 9 hours of solo 1x crate jobs before breaking even. However, these will come in handy with vehicle cargo if I decide to do that in the future. While Repo - Simeonics is more profitable, it's also slightly more difficult. Taking your Bati 801 to the airport twice to grab two cars takes some time, and has more room for error, especially considering the wanted level at the beginning. That said, the only choke point is at the entrance/exit of the airport, and really isn't an issue. But it is worth noting. Chasers II can be done in around 2:00, with 2:00 of waiting in Simeon's parking lot to turn in. This can definitely be more boring, so I am currently switching it up between Chasers II and Simeonics. Once you're ~ Rank 40, you should be able to do some better missions, as mentioned in this post, but you should have already done the Perico Heist by then, and at that point the missions will be less than what you can make with Perico.
Testing Parameters:
Each mission was timed from the beginning of loading into the queue to loading back into free roam. Crate jobs were timed from leaving the CEO laptop, picking up, taking to warehouse, selling and dropping off, to returning to the CEO office. Office used was Maze Bank West, while warehouses used were White Widow Garage ($360,000) and Convenience Store Lockup ($250,000). All tests performed using PlayStation 5 with MTU set to 750. With default MTU setting, queuing into missions may be quicker, and therefore even more profitable.
Questions
Why not Sightseer? Sightseer, the CEO/VIP Work, is definitely non-combat. However, there are so many variables here, that it's just not worth it. You're usually taken on a wild goose chase throughout the northern section of the map. You need a fast airborne vehicle for Sightseer to be worth it. But even then, you probably already have better means of income. That said, give it a shot! Even if it takes you all 15:00 to complete, it's still $20,000 ($25,000 if completed in under 5:00, but let's not kid ourselves). This comes out to $1,333/min if done in 15:00, or $2,000/min if done in 10:00.
Changelog
12/30/2020 - Added Questions section - Added information regarding Sightseer. - Added information regarding CEO Vehicle Cargo.
As someone who spends $1000+ a year on video games, here's my perspective on what is putting me off from spending money on RDO
I feel like Red Dead Online in general has highlighted some worrying trends in regards to Rockstar's design philosophy and I am concerned about the online experience in their future titles such as GTA 6.
I don't expect this post to have any massive impact on the future of RDO, but I wanted to share my expectations and attitudes as a consumer in hope that it might help Rockstar gain a better understanding of their audience. After all I have money that I am willing to spend and they seem to be after, there just hasn't been a reasonable incentive to do so.
For a long time GTA:O was my main source of entertainment and I used to regard Rockstar Games as the best video game publisher in terms of quality and value of the experience their games provided.
When RDR2 released two years ago, I was excited by the massive step-up in terms of complexity and immersion from GTA:O. I was also quite burnt out with GTA so I was prepared to turn RDO into my main source of entertainment.
I didn't own a console so instead I decided to save and build a high end PC in time for the game's PC release. I was prepared to commit 100% to this game.
October 2019 came, my PC was ready and I pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition. I got the game, played Story mode through all of Arthur's chapters, but stopped when I reached the Epilogue - I was excited to get into Online and see how it felt. And then it all fell apart.
Meh, the game felt a bit GTAish at the start, but I didn't mind it so much. I think I experienced some bugs or technical issues that made me take a break from the game and wait for a fix.
I was away for the holidays and then travelling for work so I get back to the game in late January. I finish John's story too and then head back into online. At this point I'm greeted with a message that Outlaw Pass season 2 is in progress. "Great, so I've already missed one?" I tell myself. I was not aware at that point in time that Steam PC players didn't even have access to Outlaw Pass season 1. But this was already starting to become a deal breaker for me and I'll elaborate on it further:
What is the appeal of Rockstar's games?
Let's take a look at GTA:Online, Rockstar's most financially successful title, success which they are probably trying to replicate with Red Dead Online. I don't know what goes through the minds of other players, so I'll share my personal experience. Before I stumbled upon GTA:Online in 2017 I had been mainly playing World of Warcraft for 3 or 4 years, but I was at a point in life where I just started my first full-time job and no longer had the time to pour into an MMO. I remember I used to describe it as "I come home from my job and have to log onto my other job" on raid night. I was also fed up with 90% of the game's content becoming irrelevant whenever a new update came along. it was just the same gameplay loop in a different packaging.
So what was so special about GTA: Online?
The biggest aspect for me was the Sandbox experience. It's an open world environment, you can fuck around freely, there is no linear gameplay imposed upon you or other restrictions that limit gameplay for the purpose of "balance". You are also free to experience the game at your own pace. There is no FOMO (fear of missing out) mechanic dictating that you play now or risk being locked out of content permanently.
Another big element of GTA Online that appeals to me is Customization options for the purpose of immersion and roleplay. The game contains so many references to Hollywood tropes and it allows you to act almost any persona that crosses your mind: Pablo Escobar, killer clown, every Charlize Theron role I can think of, the list is endless...
One thing that GTA Online did well and I used to praise them over other games for it was the inclusion of Universal Reward/Currency. Any activity you carry out in the game rewards the same currency, it's always meaningful progress towards your next goal. You had the ability to purchase it via Shark Cards, but the microtransaction served as an alternative in order to save time, not as a means of unlocking content behind an exclusive paywall. With the Arena Wars and the Casino DLC it looks like Rockstar has been experimenting with new ways to milk both "player engagement" in the form of time spent grinding secondary currency and revenue in the form of microtransactions. They can go claim to their shareholders "our playerbase is more active than ever and also spending money on the game". It just feels very limiting and at least the Arena Wars currency comes across as an artificial incentive for people to engage in gameplay that R* is not confident about it being popular on its own.
So I've established what were the most appealing elements of GTA:O as a consumer: 1.Freedom of Sandbox environment 2.Immersion and Roleplay in the form of customization options 3.Unique Currency serving as the means of progression
In my opinion, time-limited exclusive content should have no place in a sandbox game. I like the Outlaw Pass as an idea, it gives people something to work toward. I am just not a fan of the thought that development time goes into creating the rewards, they're added to the game, take space on my drive, but they are just locked forever with no means of obtaining them. It just diminishes my perceived value of your product. "Oh great I didn't play from the start? Time for an incomplete experience." Not to mention the fact that PC players are getting an incomplete product by default because Outlaw Pass 1 was never available on their platform. Some would argue that it's rewarding players who have been playing from the beginning. At what cost? It's also penalizing new players. Players that would've easily spent money on the pass, they just picked the game up too late, so now they are locked out of features forever. As someone who has missed almost 3 Passes worth of content, this is my biggest gripe about the game and what's holding me back from committing to the game to the point where I'd be willing to drop real life money on it. And I'm not arguing about getting the rewards for free. I am arguing for making that content available through other less efficient means. I didn't play the game when I was supposed to play it and now there's less content available for me. Oh sure, that'll definitely bring me back to the game and not make me abandon it on the spot. You can still reward players who buy the pass by unlocking the rewards for them, but why lock content forever and devalue the experience for any future player that buys your game? You could add them on a rare rotating stock for a ridiculously high gold bar price. There's a gold sink for you right there, now you're giving people a reason to spend money on your game. Or I don't even know, sell the passes again at some later time. You probably have the technology to allow players to purchase multiple passes and keep one active at a time. Just make old passes no longer reward gold or whatever.
Rockstar, you're concerned with reducing people's means of obtaining gold while also falling behind on delivering meaningful content. That's cause you're digging your own hole with your shortsighted approach on FOMO, working on adding content to the game only to then lock it away. But most importantly, you're establishing your stance: "Monetization by all means, screw player experience, screw a quality integral product, pay us right now or risk the game becoming more incomplete."
Some would argue that the Outlaw Pass is just cosmetics. I would totally get that point if this were a MOBA or a FPS or any other genre where gameplay is the predominant feature. But have a look at what's the most popular GTA content on Twitch: roleplay. Immersion and Roleplay have always been defining features of Rockstar games. Time-limited exclusive content just detracts from the value proposition of a sandbox game. If not cosmetic options, what else is there to work towards in RDO? It's not supposed to be a competitive game. K/D has no meaning, high scores have no meaning, It's a Club Penguin with guns and horses. Also the whole point falls apart because with Outlaw Pass 4 and 5 there are actual gameplay upgrades that are featured as time-limited exclusives,
The perceived loss of value from missing one outlaw pass was what made me drop the game again back in January. I picked it up again a month ago and I was actually enjoying it to the point where I was prepared to buy gold for the Outlaw Pass. Inaccessible content was a minor issue that I was willing to overlook since it didn't look like I missed out on any gameplay impacting features from previous passes. But oh boy, Rockstar, you didn't even try to be subtle in the latest update. You just reinforced the statement that you're after my money at any cost. I get that daily challenges had to be addressed, but at least the nerf didn't lock away access to content. But now you're taking gameplay impacting upgrades and holding them hostage behind a time-limited paywall. To me that's a sign that you're willing to compromise the quality of gameplay for a Q4 financial boost. It's very hard to justify spending money on this game at this point when there is no sign of good will from its developer.
GTA Online didn't need all these extreme incentives of monetization and look how well it performed. RDO feels like monetization came first and the game was build around it. Every feature feels like it was designed to psychologically entice me into spending and that's its biggest flaw. Everywhere I look I see a price, but I don't see value.
Rockstar and Take2: Here's some reasons you missed out on immense amounts of money by not architecting dedicated servers into your multiplayer setup
To bring everyone up to speed on network topology in games: GTA Online uses what's called a peer-to-peer mesh network setup. This means that every PC/console on a connected session is talking to every other PC/console in that session. The preferred alternative for most multiplayer games is sever-client, where in every PC/console is talking with a single server. With p2p mesh, this means that everyone shares authority. What this translates to is that a server is not the single authority checking for malicious activity, much of which anyone who has played GTA Online for is familiar with. This also means that anyone with the know-how can figure out what IP every other person is connecting from. This can lead to other malicious activity outside of the game. But standing up dedicated servers costs money. Why not avoid that? There are plenty of cases to be made where peer-to-peer connectivity makes sense, especially from a cost-savings perspective. But in some cases, like GTA Online, the benefits/gains from using a server-client setup far outweigh the costs. So, in no particular order:
What Dedicated Servers Would Have Brought to RS/T2:
More purchases of cash in the Social store. We'll start with the obvious here. When someone can get into a game and ask about [redacted method of obtaining money] and get a response 50% of the time, it's an obvious miss on being able to purchase prepaid in-game credit cards from the store. There's no incentive. And if they don't want to ask someone to do it, they can do it themselves. Higher volume of Twitch streamers. It seems easily correlated, but Twitch's research shows that livestreaming leads to better game sales. The reason this isn't streamed as broadly is because not everyone can get enough reliable people for a heist. Private sessions can be invaded by the same people who also [redacted method of obtaining money]. This is regardless of the privacy of a lobby, because those same people can find a unique identifier on the public Rockstar social site and join it, regardless of whether or not they're a friend or a crew member-- or simply not invited. What this translates to are people who have such a low bar to pass to join a streamer's game and hold the experience hostage, crash the session or do any other number of malicious things. They can also impersonate people and send messages as them. So this further leads to things like not being able to do: Twitch Rivals streams between competing streamer teams. Imagine this: the game is pretty solidly protected from people who [redacted method of obtaining money] and those incidents they generate are rare, and when they do pop up, they're punished. So, streaming this game is far more viable. Competitive crews start forming, and Rockstar promotes an event with streamers where they're able to host lobbies and get 24, 36 or even 48 streamers in one session running 12 different crews for things like:
Business goods battles
Arena wars
Deathmatches
Races
And so on and so forth. But because items have to be obtained through legitimate game mechanics, it also implements a grind. Maybe these groups/crews have been running for a while. But then you'd also be able to do: Streamer Drops through Connected Accounts We've seen other games do this, where viewers can get "drops" into their game by watching the streamer play it. These drops could have been literally anything that was on the Diamond Casino Wheel of Fortune. It could have even been a bonus spin at the wheel, to encourage getting the player in the game. The Long-Term, Sharded MMO Experience This translates to cash because people would be continually playing the game, which means more people paying for in-game cash and general popularity because more people would be streaming it, but this is the bigger buyback to the player, too. Imagine a crew that worked hard at completing a certain set of heists on hard difficulty, no deaths, consecutive. Four people who are streaming their attempt like people do for raid bosses. And their reward was a unique yacht only available for them. A ranked arena war system that awarded players who got 100 wins with a unique vehicle or livery. The system could have been adjusted to make some things a grind. Making that money with friends, and then knowing that if someone had a high-end apartment, much less a casino penthouse, that they earned it through blood, sweat and hard work. Powerful crews that were running around and happen to land on the same lobby and an all-out war with tactics, reinforcements and a consideration of cash drain to get the win in Los Santos. These are the things that Rockstar and Take2 missed out on by not having dedicated servers with protections against [redacted method of obtaining money]. They were on the verge of greatness. They were this close. And I know that a lot of this translates over for Red Dead Online, too.
Is It Too Late to Do All of This?
No, I don't think so. If RockstaTake2 were to seek redemption from this, here's what they'd have to do: Implement a dedicated server gamemode, and only allow characters created for this game mode specifically. If people want to continue messing around in peer-to-peer sessions, maybe they allow that for a time before slowly forcing people over (because it's all about that money, right?). But create a new character (or duplicate the looks of one), and make it only available for play on controlled, dedicated servers. You can even put Ye Olde GTA 5 spin on it and have Lester come in and say, "Yeah, I know the simulation was pretty fucked, right? It got hacked by kids on Christmas break. But anyway, now that you know what's possible out there in this stupid, god-forsaken world, well... uh, perhaps it's time we started making some money. And you remember Fleeca, right?" Then people start off fresh, and work on earning things through the grind. I promise you, that'll net you some untold money and viewership. And I have faith enough that even if you made a very solid push into authoritative client-host conversion from peer-to-peer mesh, allowing the authoritative client-host to be controlled by Rockstar servers, you'd get something out of it. And I will put a disclaimer on here: I don't know if the game engine is so archaic that it wouldn't allow for this kind of change. And if that is indeed the case, then the only thing that I can say is you missed out on all of the above by choosing to design what you did, because it is a proprietary engine. But if you can, imaginary Rockstar or Take2 directory reading this, please, I implore you. Push for the change. This has been one of the best social games for me during lockdown, and I can't overstate how much everyone will benefit from this. Sincerely, ~The Village Idiot
Rockstar and Take2: Here's some reasons you missed out on immense amounts of money by not architecting dedicated servers into your GTA/RDR2 multiplayer setup
This is mostly written in the GTA Online perspective, though it has crossover into RDR Online as well. When someone can get into a game and ask about [redacted method of obtaining money/goods/vehicles/XP] and get a response 50% of the time, it's an obvious miss on being able to purchase prepaid in-game credit cards from the store. There's no incentive. And if they don't want to ask someone to do it, they can do it themselves. Nevermind that the same group of people who can [redacted method of obtaining money/goods/vehicles/XP] will also just grief sessions. Better yet: Better Control on Hackers/Modders Anyone who is on the outside of RDR2 or GTA multiplayer has probably only heard telltale of what modders do in these games. Here's a list of what I've personally experienced:
Crash game sessions for individuals or the whole lobby
Send text messages as players in a session
Cycle the daytime so frequently that it can cause seizures
Blow up and kill all players instantly in a session
This is done by finding a unique identifier in Rockstar online. I don't know the details; that's how a modder described it to me.
This is especially impactful to anyone who streams, as they only need to see their in-game name and do the aforementioned to join their session and hold it hostage/ruin it. Getting rid of this yields more, is written about later.
Grab other players and teleport them around the map
Attach objects to players so they can't get anywhere
Cage players
Generate endless in-game currency (which is something Rockstar offers as purchasable in their store).
The list goes on. The biggest reason for using dedicated servers, honestly, is to get rid of the griefers. It's enough so that I've seen people ask if someone is running a specific type of mod, and they know the commands to use to get gifted vehicles, cash, etc. It's prolific and horrible. But cleaning those things up and preventing them means: Higher volume of Twitch streamers.
And their reward was a unique yacht only available for that achievement.

Hosted by Travis Scott and Chase B Episode starts with Travis explaining the story that T-Pain was seen telling on his Twitch stream. For anyone else who missed Travis's quick explanation of the T-Pain situation, he basically said he was exhausted from being fucked up all night per usual (his words), and before finalizing Astroworld for good wanted to meet with T-Pain to see if they had any last minute ideas. Him being hungovecomedown with no sleep plus a third-party studio with supposedly strict volume restrictions led to travis being cranky then falling asleep. [RANT] To all of those complaining about everything being overpriced
At the risk of being downvoted to all hell, THIS GAME IS NOT REAL LIFE! The prices for cars in this game isn't supposed to be indicative of the real world value of these cars, its supposed to indicate how much Rockstar thinks a player would pay for the car, and for the most part they aren't far off. Now, I hear the arguments that the cars are so expensive for the sole reason to sell shark cards, and while that may be potentially true, it's easier than ever to make money in this game. I'm sure anecdotal evidence isn't the most valued, but I think I can make a pretty good point by stating my own. A friend and I wanted to do some last minute grinding before the DLC dropped and honestly, it didn't take very long for both of us to make a decent bit of money doing casino heists (all legit and zero glitches, to those who wish to accuse me of such). Yes, the initial investment for the arcade is quite steep (cheapest one in LS being 2 million dollars), but guess what, to quote myself, "it's easier than ever to make money in this game." For new players just getting into the game, you can get upwards of a million dollars with quite literally minimal effort by completing all the treasure hunts and bounties, which shouldn't take more than a couple hours. After that (basically) free million there's the other free million for PlayStation users (possibly the largest community for this game) and Twitch Prime bonuses (which includes an arcade btw, admittedly the worst one, but can still get you started). Instead of spending all this money, in you'd invest on a business then you'd be set for money. This is an online game, designed to keep you playing. Grinding is its lifeblood. If you'd rather not grind for a couple hours to get yourself started, then of course you'd have no choice but to rely on shark cards. From someone who enjoys the grind and has never spent money on any in-game purchase in my life, this game's online is perfectly fine, definitely above average, and the reason I keep coming back to it. Don't get me wrong, I love to bag on R* too, but I personally think that things are getting out of hand. This brilliant game company has not only made all of our childhoods epic with their ps2 titles, but they have given us constant updates for a 7+ year old game. All this aside, I'd still take a gta 6 instead of 5 again on the PS5. (I guess nobody's perfect) PS: Sorry for the long rant, it was just something getting on my nerves. TL;DR: the prices of everything is fine enough, it's easy to make money. PPS: If you're struggling to find someone to help you with the casino heists, there are plenty of sources for you to find help.
Embedded Updates | [Rockstar Newswire]([object Object]) Update items, discounts and bonuses are added as they are found in-game or other reliable sources and may not be complete at the current time.
GTA Online just got a boost in new players due to the free giveaway at Epic Games, myself included. After playing and doing some research online I decided to write this brief no-nonsense "tl;dr" list of tips, sadly not included in the game itself, for my friends. As it got larger and more thorough I decided to post it publicly - hope it helps! (June 2020; PC version 1.50, mostly applies to console too)
The order of tips is simple to technical, meaning arguably the most important stuff is near the end.

Troubleshooting
[ 1. Gameplay ]
Go to the Casino every 24 hours to spin the Lucky Wheel. Free and easy rewards.
Complete your Daily Objectives for extra cash (found in the Interaction Menu, "M" key by default).
Max Health increases significantly with every rank you gain until 100. Don't expect to beat a veteran player of similar skill or have an easy time in end-game combat missions early on.
Strength increases through fistfights (NOT melee weapon fights or kicking vehicles, contrary to claims in other guides) and sports minigames. It's an important stat because of damage resistance. Best trained either by beating up pedestrians frequently or powerleveled using the "Blow Up III" mission (which is easy and prevents you getting a Wanted level) while beating up Paramedics (who take more hits than pedestrians) in front of any hospital (where they respawn in large groups). Takes 1.5-2 hours to go from 10 to 100 this way.
The other stats will level up naturally as you play.
If you run missions, always follow the temporary bonus rates. For example, Martin Madrazzo's missions gave 2x RP (XP) and cash rewards when I started so I ran those on repeat, with the added advantage of knowing them inside out. This is great for leveling, especially on Hard difficulty, though there are better cash options described below.
If you have the Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack (CE from here on) included in the Epic Games giveaway, "buy" the free stuff ASAP. You'll find it in the Escape > Online menu.
The Bounty Hunter and Treasure Hunt activities (received through in-game e-mails) both give you a weapon: An axe with rage ability and a revolver respectively, plus $250k each after completing a quick challenge.
A similar but unmarked activity is the LS Slasher for another 250k and revolver, though you'll want a guide to hunt it down (thanks to shoryuXE10).
Playing with crew members increases mission rewards by 10%. Playing while in a business (CEO/Associates for example) gives minor RP rewards if you're nearby.
It's possible to create a "solo public" session, as explained here. This can also occur randomly, which may either be a good thing or a bad thing depending on what you're doing (thanks to gargamel999).
[ 2. Equipment]
Your weapon wheel will become a mess and the game will keep equipping the wrong weapon constantly. To solve this you can purchase a Weapons Locker for various player-owned Businesses, storing what you don't use (175k for Bunker is cheapest as far as I'm aware). Merely dropping crappy weapons only works temporarily.
Get a bulletproof helmet ASAP at a clothing store, ideally a "Combat Helmet with Four Goggles" as this includes Thermal Vision (costs 80-100k). Both versions will increase the amount of headshots you can survive from 0 to 2, or 0 to 1 if the enemy uses a Heavy Sniper.
"Cosmetic body armor" bought in clothing stores doesn't add any protection except during specific Heists. Only "Body Armor" bought at Ammu-Nation or during the Job start/end screens does.
Get a suppressor ASAP for stealth Missions/Heists/Deathmatches, ideally on a Sniper and an (accurate) Assault Rifle. Missed shots and corpses can still alert the enemy.
Unless your aim is amazing, get an Assault Shotgun ASAP. Also very good for blindfiring around cover if low on health.
Get a Homing Launcher ASAP to take down moving vehicles, especially aircraft. You'll need to lead the target to ensure a hit, meaning "aim where the vehicle is going to be", or in some cases directly behind the vehicle so that the missile "slings" around to hit the rear.
The Mini SMG is an excellent drive-by weapon due to its high fire rate, allowing you to headshot enemies in vehicles or pop tires more reliably. A similar option is the AP pistol with slightly lower fire rate but significantly higher damage.
A very popular and cheap vehicle is the Armored Kuruma. While it can't withstand explosives like the more expensive armored vehicles can, it'll protect you extremely well from bullets without sacrificing much speed. An ideal mission and heisting vehicle (bought from southernsanandreassuperautos).
[ 3. Business ] Once you have competent equipment, consider investing your cash into a (single) Business to earn more cash later. Note that most of my info on this comes from other guides:
Ideally buy locations close together, centrally on the map and well-connected via roads/highways.
Most importantly, choose something you'll enjoy! If you don't like driving, don't get Import/Export.
The Office with Vehicle Warehouse creates the most profitable solo activity in the game, namely Import/Export (only sell "Top End" cars!). La Mesa, the cheapest warehouse, is often recommended. Cargo Warehouse is also a good option but requires friends to run efficiently.
The Bunker is one you'll want eventually due to research (new ammo types, special vehicles etc), though early on it's more interesting as a source of semi-passive income which you can run solo (if you only sell a partial batch of product, also removing the need for the Security upgrade) or with friends (full batch).
The Motorcycle Club with Cocaine, Meth and Counterfeit businesses for semi-passive income if you have a few friends to help you sell the goods every few hours. Cocaine can potentially be done solo with partial batches as well. Interestingly the Clubhouse that comes free with CE is the best one according to most guides.
Facilities, Nightclubs and Arcades are better later on so I'll leave those for now.
Arena Wars is a very interesting vehicular onslaught-type game mode, and its garage happens to be the best in the game for customization. You'll need to buy this to start upgrading vehicles to use in the Arena, but you can also try the mode without.
[ 4. Settings ] First the important stuff:
"Vehicle Camera Height" should be set to "High" so you can see what's in front of you past the first car or hill.
Tweak graphics for a smooth framerate. Stutter during a shootout can get you and your teammates killed.
Since Online mode blasts you with constant phone alerts, turn those off.
If you use first person mode in combat it's probably best to still have cover in third person so you can see past whatever you're hiding behind; "First Person Third Person Cover" to "On".
If you play Online exclusively you could disable the Landing Page and have GTA boot straight into Online, allowing the game to load while you do something else. However, first booting into Story mode and then switching to Online is reported to be faster (thanks to gargamel999).
The default keybinds are poor. Here are my recommended changes:
This game doesn't allow you to leave functions unbound, so firstly rebind those you never use to keys out of your hand's reach. On my keyboard these are -, =, [, ], ;, ', \, ,, ., /, O, P, K, L etc. Possible functions include character select to free up the Alt key; recording for F1-F3; next/previous radio station for scroll down in vehicles if you use Q instead, or play without in-game music etc.
Make "Interaction menu" easily accessible - I use F1.
Make "Toggle Helmet Visor" easily accessible if you like thermal goggles - I use Left Alt.
Make your favorite weapon categories easily accessible - I use 1 for Shotgun, 2 for Assault Rifle, 3 for Sniper Rifle, 4 Heavy Weapon, 5 Special Weapon.
You'll likely want to tweak the Aircraft controls in-depth. How you prefer them is entirely up to you. In flight, Leftclick to enable or disable mouse controls (set the default control type in the settings menu). I personally use Shift for acceleration, Control for deceleration, W/A for pitch up/down, A/D for yaw, Q/E for roll and the mouse for pitch/yaw in case I need it (optimized for helis). Better yet, use a controller as that's what the game was optimized for.
Optionally lower auto-center on Aircraft to avoid twitchy behavior.
Also tweak the mouse settings. You've got Sensitivity, Acceleration and "Fine Aim" to toy with.
The "Online" > "Options" menu:
Set "Remain Host after Next Job Vote Screen" to "On" if you know what type of job you want (including difficulty and team size).
Set "Matchmaking" to "Closed" if you play with friends often, else the game will auto-invite from your session. Alternatively play in an invite-only session.
[ 5. Troubleshooting ] This section is only useful if the game is malfunctioning somehow (which sadly is very common):
If the load times are ridiculously long despite having a good PC, the network ports used by the game are likely getting firewalled by your router. You'll need to set up port forwarding on the router to fix this (1990's called, they want their dev team back). Google/DuckDuckGo "port forwarding" to find many excellent guides, combined with this official Rockstar page for the port numbers.
If that's not enough or someone else on your network wants to play the game along with you, you may have to set up a "DMZ" or "De-Militarized Zone". IMPORTANT: This is HIGHLY unsafe. Any douche script kiddie will be able to infiltrate your network, so only do this if you know what you're exposing yourself to or have nothing to protect (like bank information/passwords). Again, Google/DuckDuckGo this if interested.
If the game crashes frequently including during single player, try lowering the graphics options - particularly the VRAM usage shown in the graphics menu. The game amateurishly self-terminates when certain limits are exceeded.
If that doesn't help, UPDATE YOUR GRAPHICS DRIVER. Often this is lazy general advice which rarely helps, but GTA5 has actually had major driver-specific issues (notably the d3d.somethingsomething error).
Lastly, and I had nowhere else to put this: You can currently get a free million and Pete's Arcade using an Amazon/Twitch Prime temporary offer. NOTE that it's set up so that although you can get the whole thing for free, it comes with automatic renewal for the subscription at 3 bucks a month. You can get rid of this either on the Twitch page or by contacting Amazon (chat) support. Edit: Fill the arcade with the free games to get $3600 per "day" (48 mins). Optionally add the 90k game in the empty slots to raise this to the $5000 max (1400 more). You'll recoup the investment in: 90/1.4=64 "days" or 51.42 real-time hours.
P.S. If any veteran players have more tips to share in the comments I'd appreciate it.

The casino has a penthouse/residential component to it. Owners of the Master Penthouse can upgrade their residence with a private spa, a bar and party area, and a media room. Residents will also be able to spend chips on art and collectibles at the Casino Store which can be used to decorate the penthouse.

The casino has a store that accepts chips as payment. You can use the chips to buy collectibles and decorations for your penthouse as well as clothing and accessories.
If you think I should add something to the summary, please let me know in the comments.
Also, if there is any other detailed information I can include elsewhere, I'd love to hear it. Particularly in analyzing the videos and screenshots and identifying new cars, etc.
I play on ps4 and i linked my social club to twitch prime and redeemed my offer but it didn’t give me the casino and it’s been almost a week. Can someone help?

There are some people saying that they have lost some of the things they owned, and now i scared to open the game. Last time i played was yesterday and i'm playing on Steam (PC). So i don't know if it's platform, rockstar fucking up or some glitch. I don't want to lose the things i have worked. Edit: Fuck it i'm going in Edit 2: still have my money and casino wheel cars. Edit 3: still have all my places, my clubhouse have been moved, but that because of twitch Edit 4 (Final): I still have all my cars and properties intact, so i guess i have not been hit by the burning bus. I could be the more than once cash bonus that could a problem idk have only gotten it once. I think it's just Rockstar fucking up again like the time where the bunker took a 5,4 mil paycheck (maybe more or less can't remember). Let's hope it gets fixed.
So I got the casino Heist twitch loot and got the one mill but I can’t get the free arcade. I don’t have enough money to buy it and get reimbursed so what do I do. I tried going on rockstar support but there is no way that I found to ask for help from a worker. Pls I really what this.
